The 2026 girls area high school golf season kicked off Aug. 13 with the Seymour Thunder Invitational at Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Of the 16 teams competing, Pulaski placed 14th with 458, and Shawano was right behind them at 459.

Scoring for the Red Raiders were Ellie Mork at 100, Kylie Weidbrenner at 116, Taylor Murphy at 119 and Madison Schuh at 123.

Talia Van Hout carded a 131.

New London’s Tanner Jahnke started and ended first in the IMCA modifieds feature race Aug. 15 at the Shawano Speedway.

He topped Wausau’s Marcus Yarie, who started eighth and finished second, and Shawano’s Jordan Bartz, who started sixth and placed third.

Jahnke also won the first heat, and Shawano’s Trent Nolan won the second heat.

Deacon Robert “Rob” Hendricks, 66, passed peacefully close to home Aug. 12, 2026, after a long health journey.

Rob is a beloved husband of over 41 years to Phyllis; a loving father to Jaclyn Hendricks, Kristyn (Matt) Elbe and Bob (Allie) Hendricks; a devoted grandpa to Archer, Remy, Robby, Jackson and Baby Hendricks (expected soon).

More than a year of waiting is about to pay off for Shawano residents as the newly renovated Shawano Recreation Center will open to the public Aug. 24.

Community Clothes Closet is bringing free clothing and essential items directly to Shawano-area residents through its Traveling Closet program, a mobile outreach effort supported this year by $3,000 in United Way funding.
