Johnson, 38, Denmark, pleaded no contest Aug. 10 to two counts of possession of methamphetamine, two counts of felony bail jumping throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker or prosecutor, and three misdemeanor charges of resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge William Kussel Jr. withheld sentencing and placed her on three years of probation with conditions.

• Cody K. Race, 37, Pound, pleaded no contest June 24 to aggravated battery intending bodily harm. Judge Jay Conley sentenced him Aug. 11 to three and a half years in prison followed by three years of extended supervision with conditions.

Students and staff at Shawano Community High School were excited to officially open its new athletic stadium to the public Aug. 17 as more than 200 people wandered around to see the artificial turf, brand new bleachers, scoreboard and more that will be the home for the Hawks for many years to come.

Gillett High School will not field a varsity football team this season.

The school has had an 8-player varsity team for several years but will still have a junior varsity squad in 2026.

The Tigers were originally scheduled to open the season Aug. 20 against Marion/Tigerton in Marion.

The Badger Amateur Baseball Association’s four No. 1 seeds opened the postseason Aug. 16 with three convincing wins and a forfeit victory.

Eland, Gresham and Little Falls picked up wins over Elderon, Menominee and Leopolis in the North, East and West divisions, respectively, while Weymont forfeited to New London in the South-Central Division.

Finals in all four divisions will be played at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 23.

The top three seeds have advanced to the second round of the Dairyland League baseball playoffs.

No. 1 Bonduel, No. 2 Waupaca and No. 3 Hortonville are in the semifinals after opening the postseason Aug. 16 with wins over Hofa Park, Marinette and Shawano, respectively.
