Chargers easily defeat Rebels

Wittenberg-Birnamwood had no trouble in its dominating 83-29 nonconference win over Wabeno/Laona.

“We played a well-balanced game tonight,” coach Nick Mechelke said. “I really liked our half-court defense.”

Rory Salvesen led the Chargers offense with 26 points. Harper Rogowski scored 21, and Melaina Granquist added 19.

Oconto Falls boys lose to Freedom

The Panthers boys basketball team fell to 4-4 in the North Eastern Conference with an 87-47 loss to Freedom.

Oconto Falls is 8-5 overall.

Panthers notch conference wins in Waupaca

It’s a streak that fans of Oconto Falls High School’s wrestling program might not know about.

The Panthers have had at least one wrestler compete for a state championship in each of the last 16 years.

Hawks come up short against Waupun

Waupun 5, Shawano/Bonduel 1

The Hawks scored first at Waupun but then gave up five unanswered goals in the next two periods to fall 5-1 to the Warriors.

Shawano/Bonduel’s goal came from Blake Swedberg with an assist from Gavin Hundt at 3:12 in the first period.

Hawks goalie Tyson Lyons collected 29 saves, and Warriors goalie Benton Nagle had 27.

Ice Bears improve to 8-0 in conference play

Bay Area 3, Lakeshore Lightning 1

A 3-1 win over Lakeshore Lightning pushed the Bay Area Ice Bears to a perfect 8-0 in the Eastern Shores Conference and 15-1 overall.

The Ice Bears notched 47 shots on goal, while Lakeshore only had 16.

Madeline Engles scored first at 6:04 in the first period with assists from Malin Jewitt and Ava McDonald.

Moede becomes first female to earn 100 wins

Shawano’s female wrestlers competed in one of the toughest tournaments in the state Jan. 17 at Wausau West.

Zennah Bosetski, Amiyah O’Kimosh, Lauren Seehafer and Ella Korth all won some matches but were knocked out of the tournament before the placing rounds.

“They all improved during the day and had some bright spots along the way,” coach Stacey Homan said.

Bonduel, Shawano boys notch big wins

Saturday, Jan. 17

Bonduel 75, Valders 49

Ryan Westrich had a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds as Bonduel improved to 12-0 overall with a 75-49 win over Valders.

Quinn Wesenberg scored 21 points, and Carter Moesch added 16.

Suring 65, Lena 53

Karl Hischke scored 18 points to lead the Eagles over the Wildcats 65-53.
