Shawano man gets 15 years for child porn

A Shawano man who previously pleaded guilty to production of child pornography was sentenced Jan. 19 in federal court to 15 years in prison.

According to court documents, Brandon Boogren, 29, used a cellphone on May 16, 2019, in Shawano to record several videos of a 2-year-old girl engaged in a sex act. Boogren can be heard on the video cajoling the girl to engage in the act.

Solar farm not as profitable as once believed

A proposed 5-7 megawatt solar farm on about 47 acres of Shawano County land on the north side of state Highway 22 near Rose Brook Road will bring the county only $500 per acre per year instead of the $800 noted when the proposal was first made in December.

Nolan Stumpf, a development manager with OneEnergy, explained the change to the public property committee Jan. 15.

CMN continues work on Neopit Outreach Center

The development of remodeling plans for the College of Menominee Nation Neopit Outreach Center continues with another community meeting in January.

Since 2022, CMN has engaged with the Neopit community to imagine a deeper presence there, grounded in reciprocity. In late December 2024, CMN and architectural design firm EUA first held listening sessions with Neopit community members.

Shawano schools cut ribbon for new district office

Shawano School District officials cut the ribbon to usher in its new district office Jan. 16 while simultaneously acknowledging the renovations and improvements done to Olga Brener Intermediate School, where the new office is, along with Shawano Community Middle School and Hillcrest Primary School.

• Jose Paredes, 25, pleaded guilty Jan. 14 to two counts of battery and one count of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. One of the battery charges was amended from a felony in a plea agreement. Judge Katherine Sloma withheld sentencing and placed him on two years of probation with conditions.

Oconto County Court News

• Cory M. Branch, 38, Townsend, was charged Jan. 12 with felony bail jumping. Judge Jay Conley set a $750 cash bond and adjourned his initial appearance until Jan. 15.
