DATCP: Avian flu still threat in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding poultry owners of the ongoing threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The spring migratory period for wild birds brings an increased risk of infection to all flocks, so DATCP recommends that poultry owners continue using the strongest biosecurity measures to protect their birds. CLUB NOTES: Shawano Area Writers
Shawano Area Writers met March 16 in the Veslak room at the Shawano Public Library. Members attending were Tom Thorstenson, Terry Misfeldt, Marilyn Kroenke, Manuel Moreleda, John Mutter, Lee Pulaski, Nicholas Wudtke, Wendy Goerl, Barbara King, Susan Cloutier, Trudy Bosman and Svetlana Allen. Introductions were made because we had a new person attend, Susan Cloutier.
AROUND THE COMMUNITY: Catholic students take part in Jewish seder
Deacon James Lonick from Sacred Heart Parish celebrated a traditional seder meal March 23 with second grade students at Sacred Heart Catholic School. The seder is a meal that Jews celebrate during the first two days of Passover every spring. The holiday lasts for eight days and nights. At the seder, families and friends sit around the table and read the story of Moses leading the Jewish people from Egypt.

Northwood Technical College Morgan Johnson, of Shawano, earned a technical diploma in cosmetology from Northwood Technical College. Saginaw Valley State University Nearly 1,900 students from Saginaw Valley State University earned a spot on the fall 2022 semester dean’s list.

The grand prize winner for the $10,000 Promote Pulaski Raffle on March 11 at Scolly’s Hometown Historic Ballroom was Tom and Paula Maroszek from Pulaski. Shawano County Brunch on the Farm planning is in full swing for 2023. Synergy Family Dairy near Pulaski will be hosting the 2023 Shawano County Brunch on the Farm on June 25. The event will be a traditional, in-person event with opportunities for guests to see a modern dairy farm and have a morning of family fun.
