Shawano, Gresham FFA win big at state contest

The Shawano FFA Chapter was named the state-winning Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event (CDE) team. Team members include Levi Wendorff, Camden Kern, Aiden Kern and Tucker Reinke.

Minnesota Crookston Drew Amdall, of Gresham, graduated from University of Minnesota Crookston with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. Amdall was also named to the spring 2025 dean’s list. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 GPA. College of Charleston Olivia DeKeyser, of Pulaski, was named to the College of Charleston (South Carolina) spring 2025 president’s list.

Winning the RibFest Challenge
Glen Martin, a member of the Sons of American Legion, won the fifth annual American Legion Post 44 — Wabeno RibFest Challenge, held June 7. Martin outcooked five other contestants. He and his wife, Amanda, participate in many Legion activities.
Field day to feature cover crops, rotations in seed potato production system
Farms are increasingly utilizing cover crops as a method of managing soil erosion and improving overall soil health. Cover crops are known to have benefits, but they can also have drawbacks in some situations. The Antigo Silt Loam & Water Producer-led Watershed Protection Group is sponsoring a Community Field Day on June 27 starting at 10:30 a.m.
Where’s WAMSCO?
The Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties is holding its fourth annual Where’s WAMSCO event. The scavenger hunt began June 15 and continues through July 20. This is a family friendly scavenger hunt within the borders of Shawano County.
