The Wisconsin 4-H Shooting Sports program is more than target practice; it’s an opportunity for youth to build skills and confidence in archery, air rifle, shot gun and more, under the guidance of dedicated adult volunteers. Locally, the Shawano County 4-H Shooting Sports program welcomes participants from ages 8-19.

When it comes to providing a child with a life-changing experience, there’s something unique about 4‐H summer camp. It provides the full benefits of a 4‐H experience coupled with the fun and wonder of camping in the great outdoors. From June 24-27, 150 youths attended the 2025 4-H MarOcoSha Residential Program at Camp Bird in Crivitz.

One species of birds that especially needs our help with home building is the purple martin. The purple martin is hard to miss. It’s North America’s largest swallow. According to The Cornell Lab All About Birds (AAB) website, it is one of the earliest South American migrants to arrive in the spring.

One of College of Menominee Nation’s high school cohorts staged an original short play last week. Written by CMN and Menominee Nation High School student Rikki Latender, the play “You’re Not Alone” shares the story of a high school valedictorian and track star who is struggling with a hidden addiction. The play was created in CMN’s spring 2025 playwriting course under the tutelage of Adjunct Professor Justin Eagle Gauthier.

The Marion Area Historical Society will host its annual Heritage Day on July 26 on the grounds of the historical society at 620 E. Ramsdell St., near the ballpark. Events start with a car show. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Vehicles include cars, trucks, hot rods, tractors and motorcycles. Crafters and vendors will be on site from 9 a.m.
