Donald D. Bartels Sr., 87, Lakewood, passed away at Bellin Memorial Hospital on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. He was born on Aug. 17, 1926, to the late Martin and Sophie (Herm) Bartels. Don served in World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He married Ora Lea Kobs on June 14, 1947, and they moved to Lakewood in 1952 and purchased the Lakewood Cheese Factory. In 1958 they purchased the Brook Farm.

Donald “Don” Hengel, 93, went home to his Lord on Feb. 17, 2014, in De Pere. He was born on March 5, 1920, to the late Matthew and Emma (Anderson) Hengel in Denmark. Don married Anne King on Jan. 20, 1940, in Denmark. They farmed the family farm in Denmark until 1971 and then moved to Mountain, and wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla. Don was an avid fisherman and hunter.

At 1:18 p.m. Feb. 17 in the town of Pensaukee, a car driven by a woman from Menominee, Mich., was northbound on U.S. 41 at 75 mph when she lost control of the vehicle and entered the median at Erdman Lane. The vehicle overturned, causing severe damage. The driver and a male child passenger restrained in a car seat required medical transport. The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Proceedings from Feb. 28 A sentencing hearing was held for Jeremy L. Dey, 36, on two counts of burglary of a building or dwelling and one count of theft of movable property – special facts. He was sentenced to six years of incarceration, including three years of extended supervision for the first two counts and one year incarceration with one year of extended supervision for third. All sentences will be served concurrently.
