Alice E. Black, 63, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at her home in Shawano. Born on Aug. 24, 1949, in Shawano, she was the daughter of Mary E. “Jean” (Hickey) Black and the late John C. Black. Alice attended Sacred Heart School, Franklin Middle School and Shawano Senior High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. After high school, Alice attended St.

Hawks 5th at River Island
Courtney Baumann shot a 47 and the Shawano Community High School girls golf team placed fifth at a Bay Conference match Thursday at River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls. Denmark (194) won the match, followed by Marinette (200), Hortonville (203), Oconto Falls (221) and Shawano (224). Baumann was tied for sixth overall with Marinette’s Cassie Hilbert.

Bonduel past comes alive at event
Dead men tell no tales — so they’re counting on volunteers with the Bonduel Community Archives (BCA) to do it for them. The local historical society will present its 10th annual cemetery walk, “A Walk in the Past,” from 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church cemetery.
Homecoming parade moves to Friday
The day and time of the annual Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce Fall and Homecoming Parade will be changed due to conflicting schedules with another downtown event, Oktoberfest. Previously held on Saturday morning, the parade this year will shift to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

Division St. Equipment and supplies were reported stolen. Shoplifting — A 49-year-old woman was cited for second-offense shoplifting at Family Dollar, 229 E.
Group accuses Madsen of withholding public records
The leader of a Chicago-based organization claims Shawano County Administrative Coordinator Tom Madsen is withholding public records.
Sengstock resigns as SCEPI executive director
Shawano County Economic Progress Inc. Executive Director Steve Sengstock resigned his post Wednesday, according to a SCEPI board official. “He resigned voluntarily,” Vice President Rick Kane said.
Storm claims one life
Crews were out cleaning up widespread storm damage Thursday and working to restore power to more than 1,000 homes in the wake of severe thunderstorms that blew through the region Wednesday night. The storms caused the death of a Menominee County woman who was killed when a tree fell on top of her car in Keshena.
