Irene Selle, 94, of Tigerton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, surrounded by family at Homme Home of Wittenberg. The former Irene Rohlinger was born on Feb. 20, 1919, in Edgar to the late Peter and Agnes (Grieten) Rohlinger. On Nov. 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to Walter R.
Shawano/Bonduel 2nd at conference relays
The Shawano/Bonduel swim team took second Thursday at the Bay Conference Relays in Sturgeon Bay. Shawano/Bonduel scored in nine of 11 events and finished with 72 points, behind only(94). Seymour (58) took third and Clintonville (54) took fourth. The Hawks won three events. Ailysh Tetting, Clare Martell, Ali Hanson and Malory Soper took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.42.
Monfils looks to repeat freshman success
Teagan Monfils success last year as a freshman on the Shawano Community High School girls cross-country team was undeniable. The fastest runner on the team, Monfils made it all the way to the WIAA state meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. Shawano golfers tie for fifth place
It was a day of ties at the Bay Conference girls golf match Thursday at Shawano Lake Golf Course. Shawano finished tied with West De Pere at 208 for fifth place Thursday. Denmark and Marinette tied at 191 for first place and Seymour and Oconto Falls each came in at 220 to tie for seventh place. “We’ve been fifth. That’s about what we’ve been lately,” Shawano coach Dean Kugler said.
Klister takes title in De Pere
Jake Klister placed first and the Shawano Community High School boys cross-country team was second at a meet Thursday in De Pere. Bay Port (20) took first, followed by Shawano (47) and De Pere (63). Teagan Monfils took third with a time of 15:45 to pace the SCHS girls team, which finished in fourth. Bay Port (23) placed first. Racine County exec endorses Menominee casino
The Racine County executive is publicly endorsing a new tribal casino proposed for Kenosha. County Executive Jim Ladwig joined members of the Menominee tribe at a news conference Thursday to announce his support. Ladwig urged state lawmakers to endorse the $800 million casino project and the 500 county jobs promised along with it. Zoning committee doesn't want fewer meetings
Shawano County Planning Director Tim Reed will have to look somewhere besides committee meetings to cut costs. The Planning, Zoning and Development Committee informed Reed on Wednesday that his proposal to reduce its meetings from 18 per year to 13 was not an acceptable way to balance his budget.
Shawano schools launch ACT challenge
The Shawano School District is offering its high school students a carrot to prepare for the ACT exam. The ACT is a standardized national test intended to measure students’ college readiness in English, math, science and reading. The district is implementing an ACT challenge where students are encouraged to go online and answer a sample ACT question each day.
Three DPW finalists touring city
Three finalists for the job of public works director were expected to be in Shawano on Friday, meeting with officials and staff and taking a tour of the city. The Common Council was scheduled to convene in closed session at 8:30 a.m.
