The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts will present the internationally acclaimed “Women of Ireland,” featuring Irish music, song and dance from Ireland’s finest female performers, at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, in the Falls Area Performing Arts Center, located in Oconto Falls High School. “Women of Ireland” is a full-stage concert production that showcases the next generation of Ireland’s leading female performers.

Four Oconto County contestants will compete for the title of Senior Fairest of the Fair. The winner will be selected Sunday, March 1, at Oconto Falls High School. Interviews and judging will take place throughout the day, and the public is invited to attend a reception with the candidates at 2:30 p.m. Final judging begins at 3 p.m. in the Falls Area Performing Arts Center.

Fostering independence is one objective of New View Industries, which will bring the musical “Grease” to the stage Thursday, Feb. 27.

Watching the Winter Olympics made me realize what a wimp I must be! Slopestyle snowboarding and freestyle skiing are crazy. Those sports are so extreme they must take some special brand of guts that I’m positive I don’t possess.

Just when you thought you heard it all about weather-related complications along the path around Falls, a new situation crops up. Such was the case on Friday. Midweek predictions had been that Thursday was going to be a rough morning with freezing rain and significant snowfall. The storm was a little slow in developing, with later forecasts indicating the precipitation would start midday.

The Cardboard Classic is a highlight of the year for fifth-graders at Oconto Falls Elementary School. As part of a unit on physical science, students learn about concepts such as friction, force, inertia and momentum, along with design principles and problem-solving skills. Teams of students then apply these skills to create the fastest possible sled, using cardboard, glue, tape and other recyclable materials.

Four students represented the Oconto Falls High School choirs in the Wisconsin Choral Director’s Association All-State Choir in January. Panthers fall to New London The Oconto Falls High School boys basketball team lost its regular season finale 60-47 to New London on Thursday in New London. Oconto Falls (3-17, 2-14 Bay), the No. 3 seed, played No. 5 Wittenberg-Birnamwood in the WIAA Division 2 regional tournament on Tuesday.
