Matthew M. Bystol

Matthew Morris “Matt” Bystol, 43, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in Vilas County. Born on Dec. 17, 1970, in Shawano, he was the son of Mike and Barbara (Lahti) Bystol. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1988, Matt attended Fox Valley Technical Collage for one year. In 1991 Matt enlisted with the United States Marines and served his country for nearly two years.
Linda A. Dickenson
Linda Amy Dickenson, 47, of Green Bay, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in Green Bay. Born on Sept. 9, 1966, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Shirley (Elm) Dickenson. After graduating from high school, Linda worked for the Just 4 Kids Day Care in Green Bay. She loved the kids there and gave each one a nickname. Linda was also a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
David A. Rand
David Allen Rand, 70, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at his home. Born on Oct. 16, 1943, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Milton and Pearl (Ledger) Rand. In 1947 his family moved back to the Chili area in Clark County. David grew up on a farm with many brothers and sisters. He was a part of the last generation to attend one-room country schools.
Lorraine E. Meyer
Lorraine Emilie Meyer, 82, of Shawano, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Evergreen Care Center. Lorraine was born June 15, 1931, in Bonduel. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ida (Heller) Boettcher. Lorraine was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. She graduated from Bonduel High School in 1949. Shawano Community High School The donkey basketball game sponsored by the Shawano FFA has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Please present your advance ticket at the door if you purchased one for the original game (sorry, no refunds). Advance tickets will go on sale again in April for any additional tickets you may need.
Writing contest seeks student entries
The Shawano Area Writers are reviving their annual youth writing contest. The group last ran the contest in 2008. The contest, renamed the George Putz Memorial Writing Contest, is open to students in grades 1-12 living in Shawano and Menominee counties. Putz donated $77,000 to the writers group through his estate in 2013. The contest is divided into three categories: poetry, fiction and nonfiction.
Wittenberg group preparing mystery dinner theater
Crossroads Community Theatre in Wittenberg is performing “Polter-Heist” by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose as its third annual mystery dinner theater production. The show is on Fridays and Saturdays, March 7, 8, 14 and 15. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.
Bubba's brings barbecue to downtown
A new family restaurant where “Texas style barbecue is served Texas style” opened Feb. 20 in downtown Shawano. Brian and Peggy Johnson opened Bubba’s BBQ Co. at 114 S. Main St., formerly home of Final Lap sports bar. “It’s like a dream,” Peggy Johnson said. “We’ve been barbecue connoisseurs for a long time. This is our first venture.
Lorraine E. Meyer
Lorraine E. Meyer, 82, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, 2014, in Shawano. Funeral services for Lorraine Meyer are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bonduel. Pastor Timothy Shoup will officiate.
Donald Joseph Nahwahquaw
Donald Joseph Nahwahquaw, 49, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Born on Oct. 2, 1964, in Shawano, he was the son of John B. and Phyllis (Boivin) Nahwahquaw. On Jan. 12, 1985, Don was united in marriage to Michelle LaRock in Keshena. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Shawano area.
