The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team’s dream season came to an end Saturday against Pewaukee in the WIAA Division 2 team state wrestling semifinals. The Chargers (17-2) lost 28-19.

Fern I. Buchholz, 86, of Bonduel, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, in Shawano. She was born on May 6, 1927, to the late Richard and Helen (Zastrow) Genke on a farm in the town of Hartland in Shawano County. On June 5, 1948, Fern was united in marriage to Hubert Buchholz. He preceded her in death in 1998. Fern was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel for 87 years. Fern and Hubert had three sons, Dick, Jerry and Mark.

Stephanie A. (Perez) Peters, Kepayos, 44, of Keshena, unexpectedly started her journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. A funeral Mass for Stephanie A. (Perez) Peters will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Catholic cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Neopit Community Center in Neopit after 5 p.m.

Cheryl L. Kohlin, 58, of Shawano, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Shawano Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral service arrangements are pending and will be announced later. Rubin “Butch” Zingler, 68, Rosemont, Minn., passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014, surrounded by his son Travis, daughter-in-law Jennifer (Eldred) and grandchildren Jocelyn and Tristan. He was born on March 19, 1945, in Shawano, son of Rubin and Velda (Kallies) Zingler. Rubin graduated from Neenah High School, the Class of 1963. He then enlisted in the United States Army on June 28, 1968, where he served as a cook, stationed in Germany.

Last week I wrote about water being a problem over the winter, but this week I will write about paper — it just keeps coming, and piling up, until I am ready to scream, or maybe even clean. It seems whenever I go to the mailbox, it is filled with paper. The paper that arrives therein are either bills, address labels or newspapers.

With our kids involved in sports throughout their school years, we’ve had our share of watching many, many sporting events. Despite bleacher butt, it has been sheer pleasure, adding color and fun to life, and especially so in the dreary throes of a drawn-out winter. My husband had the honor of being involved with coaching basketball with our kids from third grade up to seventh. It was wonderful bonding, with memories to last a lifetime.

Pete Krolow is the treasurer of the Embarrass River Lions Club, which is based in Tigerton. The club will be holding chicken and fish dinners once a month at the American Legion in Shawano. Krolow was born and raised in Tigerton, graduating from Tigerton High School in 1990. He earned a degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in animal science with a meat emphasis and a business option.

After a day of school, several students from Hillcrest Primary School and Olga Brener Intermediate School go to United Methodist Church in Shawano for some fun and to learn about the Bible. The Bible Kidz Afterschool Program was started by Pastor Allen Christensen at the beginning of the school year in 2013. “This is something I’ve been doing for 15-16 years,” said Christensen, who has been the pastor in Shawano for seven months.
