There is a new name for the hotel at the junction of state Highways 22 and 29, but the service and comfort is expected to remain the same. Comfort Inn and Suites, W7393 River Bend Road, has been converted to a Boarders Inn and Suites, operated through Cobblestone Hotels, based in Neenah.

The Shawano Community High School jazz band dominated the Division 1A competition at the 29th annual “Jazz in the Meadows’’ event on Feb. 22 at Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois. With the victory, Shawano became the only Wisconsin high school to win six championships — in a row nonetheless — at Rolling Meadows. “We tell the kids to compare this to high school sports,’’ said Christopher Kent, band director.

Viola Szymanski went home to her Lord on March 9, 2014. Viola was born on Oct. 29, 1930, to the late Reinhold and Anita Zarling in Gillett. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Anthony Szymanski. She spent many years as a homemaker and later went to work for Elliott Glove Company. Viola was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett.

Carol J. Schlorhaufer (nee Ellman), 80, of Newport, Minn., passed peacefully under the care of her family on March 6, 2014, and went home to be greeted by her Heavenly Father, beloved husband, John “Jack,” and family. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Newport Lutheran Church, 900 15th St., Newport, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in St.

Helen M. Reinemann, 91, resident at Arbor View Communities in Plymouth, left us on Feb. 28, 2014, to fly with her angels. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Theresia Schnell; two brothers, George and Florentine Schnell; by her first husband, Elmer “Shorty” Dora, and her second husband, Kenneth J. Reinemann. She is survived by one brother, Clarence Schnell; three children, Ken (Sue) Dora, Elmer Dora Jr.

Sheila Marie Jarsonbeck, 75, of Riverview, Fla., died Feb. 7, 2014, of a heart attack, “thus ending 52 years of the most beautiful, warm friendship,” said her husband, Carl Jarsonbeck. Sheila was born the oldest of an extended family in Abrams, where she helped her father on their dairy and horse farm.
