The Hornets handed the previously unbeaten Red Raiders their first loss of the season with a 2-0 victory.

Joe Rivas and Christian Lopez scored the goals for Preble.

Elijah Alexander made two saves in goal for the Hornets (6-1-2, 2-1). Blake Bazter had two saves in goal for Pulaski (6-1-2, 0-1).

Seymour once again ran away with the title while the other four teams battled for the remaining positions when golfing at Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.

Seymour scored 169, followed by Oconto 210, Shawano 212, Bonduel 217 and Sturgeon Bay 222.

Chargers go the distance, but come up short

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood volleyball team entered its Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup with Iola-Scandinavia on a roll.

After opening conference play with a three-game sweep of Menominee Nation on Sept. 8, the Chargers headed to Waupaca on Sept. 12 and won a five-team invitational after 2-0 victories over Waupaca, Two Rivers, Wisconsin Rapids and Tomahawk.

Hawks let one slip away in New London

On paper, a Bay Conference football matchup between teams with a combined 2-4 record doesn’t sound like an exciting way to spend three hours on a Friday night.

However, fans attending New London’s thrilling 42-41 win over Shawano in New London ended up getting their money’s worth, as the teams combined for 12 touchdowns and 83 points.

Ficarri, Schmidt lead Pulaski to third win

Pulaski’s football team got back on the winning track Sept. 11 with a 46-27 Fox River Classic Conference-North win over Green Bay Preble.

Meanwhile, two other area teams improved to 4-0 on the season, as Bonduel handed Marinette a 35-0 loss and Wausaukee forfeited its 8-player game to Suring.

Oconto Falls wins Shawano Invite for second straight year

Saturday, Sept. 12

Oconto Falls continued its strong start to the season, going 5-0 and winning the Shawano Invite for the second consecutive year. The Panthers did not drop a single set throughout the tournament.

Oconto Falls opened the morning pool play with wins over Brillion, 25-11, 25-10; Peshtigo, 25-18, 25-20; and Manitowoc Lutheran, 25-23, 26-24.
