Nelson prefers to have deal before season

Even though the Green Bay Packers got a bargain the last time they signed Jordy Nelson to a contract extension, the veteran wide receiver said Tuesday he still would prefer to sign another deal before the season rather than playing out the final year of his contract. Frederick stays unbeaten in Speedway features
Troy Springborn outdueled Nick Anvelink to win his second Late Model feature of the year Saturday at WNCY100 night at the Shawano Speedway. Marcus Yarie (IMCA Modified) and Tracy Wassenberg (IMCA Sport Mod) also won their second features of the season. MIHS's Smith wins 2 sectional titles
Menominee Indian High School’s Ania Smith won two sectional championships, and Gresham/Bowler’s Drew Payne won the long jump to lead the area athletes competing in WIAA track and field sectionals Friday. Bonduel, competing in the Division 2 regional in Freedom, did not have an athlete make the state cut.

Letter: Clintonville overcomes Memorial Day glitches
To the editor: Thanks to efforts by many in the community Clintonville honored its veterans on Memorial Day. The true reason for the long weekend was recognized beginning with the sirens at 7 a.m. followed by the ringing of church bells. This year the American Legion took the lead in organizing the event. Next year the VFW will be in charge. The committee this year was Kay Kuester Doran and Greg and Tricia Rose.

Volunteer Profile
Raquel Strayer volunteers for a number of organizations. She was born in Milwaukee but moved to Puerto Rico, where her mother was from, when her parents divorced. She graduated from Commonwealth High School in Puerto Rico in 1975 and came back to Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac. Strayer then moved to the Gresham area and began working for Midwest Breeders (now CRI) in 1976.

Summer quickly in full swing
Now that the calendar is about to turn to the month of June, and the weather has seemed to catch up to the actual season, it feels like summer has arrived. With one of my granddaughters playing softball for Tigerton High School, I went through a whole series of weather going to games during the past two months. There was rain, quite often wind, and only the last two were warm with no jacket required.

Countdown to graduation
Since all our planting is now complete, the disk, drag and chisel plow have been tucked into the back corner of the shed along with the corn planter and grain drill. All are stored until next year. I am off the hook as far as field work goes. Until we start haying, that is. This recent nice warm rain we got Memorial Day evening along with the warmer temps will shoot the alfalfa up lush and thick in no time.
