The ballot appears to be set for the Republican primary in the Shawano County sheriff’s race, with no limit on the amount of money the candidates can spend. Incumbent Randy Wright and challengers Tom Tuma and Adam Bieber have all returned well over the 200 signatures needed to get on the ballot. Wright turned in 400 signatures. Tuma turned in 353, and Bieber turned in 300. The primary will be held Aug.

Chris Kellett noticed he was missing a player during the Wisconsin Playground Warriors Amateur Athletic Union boys basketball team practice May 22 at Shawano Community High School. It turned out Brevin Pritzl, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from De Pere, had a very good excuse for being late. Wally Saffran, of Oconto Falls, experienced a whirlwind tour of Washington, D.C., with the Old Glory Honor Flight on May 8. A group of 57 veterans of World War II and the Korean War took the flight. Saffran served in the Army during the Korean War. He joined other Korean War veterans in touring the Korean War Memorial, while the World War II veterans toured their memorial.

The 2014 Oconto County Breakfast on the Farm will be held Sunday, June 8, at Triple C Dairy Farm, owned by Lee Roy and Diane Kruse, at 8716 CCC Road, Oconto Falls. A polka Mass featuring the Maroszek Brothers will be celebrated at 7 a.m., and breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs with ham and cheese, sausage, yogurt, apple slices, cheese, milk, coffee, orange juice and ice cream.

Wayne E. Wagner, 76, of Suring, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. He was born in Bridgewater, S.D., on Oct. 13, 1937, to the late Claus and Anna Englebrecht Wagner. Wayne married Sandy Schmude on March 11, 1961, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oshkosh. The couple farmed and owned a dry cleaning business near Berlin. He worked as an IBEW industrial electrician and retired in 1999.

Gerald J. Grams Sr., 77, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was born to the late Carl and Louise (Mittag) Grams on April 10, 1937. Gerald married Bernice Droese on June 11, 1960, at St. Paul Evangelical and Reform Church in Menomonee Falls.

Dean “Scooter” Kesler, 51, Gillett, died suddenly Saturday morning, May 24, 2014, at Community Memorial Hospital. He was born May 14, 1963, in Oconto Falls to Willard and Phyllis (Schaal) Kesler. Scooter was a well-known musician in the area.
