The Community Healthcare Foundation board has added three new board members: Carrie Hill, of Pulaski, Micki Carlson, of Gillett, and Jeff Just, of Abrams. “These new members bring their energy to our mission to improve the health care of the greater Oconto County,” said Bill Kamke, Community Healthcare Foundation board president.

The Oconto Falls School Board on Wednesday adopted an employee handbook for the district’s teachers and support staff, ending its tradition of contract negotiations with employee unions. The 2014-15 school year will be the first to be governed by handbooks. The Oconto Falls School District stuck with union contracts longer than most employers following Act 10, enacted in 2011 in Wisconsin.

Proceedings for May 28 Travis R. Pecha, 27, Oconto, pleaded not guilty to one misdemeanor charge and two felony charges of strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse, on April 12 in Pensaukee. A $5,000 cash bond continues. A status conference is June 17. Lee Roy Kruse knew early on he was going to devote his life to dairy farming. Growing up in the town of Gillett on the farm owned by his parents, Gail and Martha Kruse, he and eight siblings learned about crops and cows from the very beginning. By age 12 he owned his first calf. Kruse’s wife, Diane, also grew up learning about farming.

Two Gillett High School students committed suicide in the past three years, and three FBLA members decided it was time to take action. “We felt we needed to do something,” said Brianna Lemirande, who graduated in May. She formed a team with classmates Kellie Krueger and Christa Block to develop a suicide prevention service project.

Four people suspected of making and selling methamphetamine were arrested Wednesday morning at a trailer home in Oconto Falls.
