A Pulcifer man is facing charges related to illegal hunting and fishing on over 170 occasions in a 15-month period across five counties.
Dylan Jacob Wolff, 27, faces two charges of failing to obtain deer hunting approval, two counts of hunting deer during a closed season and two counts of hunting or fishing after revocation on a second incident within five years in Waupaca County. Those charges are misdemeanors with six months jail possible for each count, but Wolff also has two felony bail jumping charges because he was on probation when the incidents occurred, so those could keep him imprisoned for up to 3 1/2 years on each count.
Wolff’s charges in Waupaca County stem from two incidents in the Town of Matteson on New Year’s Eve 2025 and Jan. 8. GPS tracker data showed Wolff had frequented Zion Lutheran Cemetery 11 times during the time period, and a game warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources found evidence of tire tracks, footprints leading in and out of the woods in the cemetery area, a bottle of scent killer spray and multiple corn kernels.
Based on that information, the warden watched Wolff’s vehicle leave his property Jan. 8 and go to the cemetery, according to the complaint. Several other wardens converged on the cemetery and approached the truck. Initially, Wolff claimed he was walking in the cemetery, even though it was almost dark and there was inclement weather.
Wolff initially claimed that he had not killed any deer during the 2025 season and had not been hunting, but after a .270 rifle was found in the back seat, he allegedly confessed to shooting a five-point buck Dec. 10 on the Cowyard Ripps public land near Pella, as well as a nine-point buck with a crossbow Oct. 23 on the Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation.
Wolff also allegedly confessed to turkey hunting in Shawano and Oconto counties, as well as shooting a buck with a crossbow during the holiday hunt and using his mother’s deer tag to register it.
In all, the DNR believes that Wolff harvested 22 deer, 43 fish and two turkeys between Oct. 15, 2024, and Jan. 8, 2026. Later in the interview with DNR, it was revealed that Wolff had allegedly hunted 20 times with a crossbow, 10 times with the rifle, five times with a recurve bow and a muzzleloader three or four times during the 2025 hunting season.
The DNR also learned that Wolff had allegedly shot at a bobcat twice on Nov. 18, 2025, with a crossbow near United Cooperative in the Shawano Industrial Park at well as shooting a 10-point buck on Oct. 15, 2024, on private property in the Town of Belle Plaine.
No charges have been filed yet regarding the hunting incidents in Shawano or Oconto counties, but Wolff is also facing a charge of hunting or fishing after revocation in Forest County. He posted a $250 cash bond in that case.
Wolff is currently free on a $2,500 signature bond in Waupaca County. His next hearing is 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in Branch I of the Waupaca County Courthouse.
