The recent Fourth of July three-day weekend was an opportunity for family and friends to gather and for the generations to connect, whether on the path around the Falls or some distance from the path. Traditions include picnics, parades and fireworks, among so many other things. With the prevalence of social media, many traditions are shared. Given the time of the year, many of those traditions are water related.

Dorothy Viola Hottenstine, 89, died peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2014, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna with her family at her side. Dorothy was born on April 25, 1925, in Shawano, to the late Henry and Rose (Tischauser) Salzman. She was united in marriage on Feb, 23, 1946, to A. J. Hottenstine. Dorothy was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton.

Highway 22 Shell night at the races proved to be a historic night Saturday at Shawano Speedway, with Lucas Lamberies becoming the first racer this season to succeed in the Challenge (opting to start in last place). Lamberies picked up not only his first win of the year in the IMC Sport Mod feature at the Speedway, but also took home an extra $250 for winning the Challenge.

Intimidation of a witness A Bonduel man is facing a felony charge of intimidating a witness for allegedly threatening a man who tried to report an assault outside a Cecil tavern in April. Kyle J. Korzeniewski, 23, could face a maximum 10 years in prison and $25,000 fine if found guilty. According to the criminal complaint, Korzeniewski threatened physical harm against another man who attempted to call 911 after the assault of Kyle J.

Tasa Grignon’s RBI single in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie as the Shawano American Legion baseball team earned a key 3-2 win over Fox River Valley West Division foe Kaukauna on Monday at Memorial Park.
