Big party invades Wittenberg

The Glam Band heralded in the evening with cover songs from music’s greatest hits during Wittenberg Community Days on July 25 at Washington Park. The annual festival kept locals entertained with a carnival, food vendors, raffles, parade and more.

 

Lena rolls out the red carpet for Thunder on Main

Before the dirt started flying at the Dirt City Motorplex in Lena on July 25-26, drivers and their cars made their way to downtown Lena for the annual Thunder on Main event where residents and visitors were treated to a close-up look at the cars and a chance to meet the drivers. There are three more stops in the AMSOIL Championship Off-Road season.

• Louis J. Sanapaw, 29, Bowler, waived extradition to another jurisdiction during a hearing before Judge Katherine Sloma.

• Justin W. Craig, 40, Oconto, pleaded no contest May 20 to attempted battery to certain individuals involved with a court or legal system and a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge Jay Conley imposed and stayed a prison sentence July 20, then placed him on two years of probation with conditions.

Deputies responded to 52 incidents, including operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at Shawano Lake; suspicious activity on South Sawyer Street in Shawano; six 911 calls; 17 traffic stops; three reckless driving incidents; three traffic hazards; one deer-related crash.

Bonduel improves to 12-2 in Dairyland with latest win

The Bonduel Broncos are still in the mix for a Dairyland League championship.

Bonduel hosted Pulaski on July 26 and picked up a 7-4 win over the Reds to improve to 12-2 in league play.

Jett Thielke held the Reds hitless over seven innings while striking out 16 batters. Jack Reinke and Noah Weier each pitched an inning of relief and gave up two runs.

Eland, Hatley combine for 33 hits, 29 runs

Eland and Hatley’s BABA baseball teams put up some big numbers under the lights July 24 in their North Division matchup in Eland.

The Engineers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to hand the Braves a 22-7 loss in a game that included 33 hits and 29 runs.

Swedberg wins dirt late models race

Shawano’s AJ Springborn moved up from a 10th-place start to capture the checkered flag in the 20-lap IMCA sport modifieds feature race at the Shawano Speedway on July 25.

Oconto Falls’ Cole Magnin started eighth and finished second, while Seymour Tim Jorgensen started 11th and placed third.

Gillett’s Brad Miller started on the pole and finished in four place.

Miller and Magnin won the heat races.
