Evidence building off '14 project list

An evidence storage building will either need to be funded this year or left in limbo in 2014. The County Board finalized its capital projects list earlier this week, taking the project off a list of 15 recommended by the Capital Projects (CIP) Committee because it did not have a funding source attached to it. Samuel P. Hawpetoss Sr.
Samuel Paul Hawpetoss Sr., 89, of Neopit, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, in Shawano. Born on Aug. 8, 1924, in McCord, he was the son of the late Paul and Josephine (Jack) Hawpetoss. Samuel was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy for more than three years during World War II. At the time of his honorable discharge on Aug.

Jacqueline Patzer
Jacqueline “Jackie” Patzer, 82, of Tigerton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Appleton Medical Center. The former Jacqueline Mae Ruprecht was born on Aug. 11, 1931, in Rosholt to Carl and Evelyn (Haroldson) Ruprecht. She was raised on a small farm in a log cabin in Galloway. Jackie graduated from Rosholt High School in 1949. She was united in marriage on Nov. 4, 1950, to John C. Hoffman in Rosholt.

Martin R. Themer
Martin R. Themer, Township of Lessor, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Martin was born on Jan. 20, 1928, to the late Hattie (Gehm) and Ewald Themer. Martin graduated with the Class of 1945 from Bonduel High School. He married the former Mary E. Lasecki on Sept. 4, 1954, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Hofa Park.

County opposes Wisconsin residency law
The Shawano County Board of Supervisors took a stand against the residency rules included in Wisconsin Act 20, which went into effect in July, but it was far from being a sign of solidarity. The board voted 18-8, with one abstention, Wednesday to object to the act, which was created in the state budget for 2013-15 and was signed into law by Gov.

Rural Shawano man charged with sex assault of 2 kids
A rural Shawano man has been charged with the sexual assault of two children, including the repeated assault of an autistic 8-year-old girl. Douglas S. Reynolds, 51, faces felony counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 12 and first-degree sexual contact with a child under the age of 13. If convicted, Reynolds could face a maximum 60 years in prison on each count.

Bonduel schools, NWTC weld partnership
Sparks flew Wednesday over a new partnership between the Bonduel School District and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. The two education institutions unveiled a revamped welding lab at Bonduel High School that will eventually help teens and adults to obtain the skills necessary to pursue welding jobs. “Today is truly a special day as we recognize a group of people that developed a vision and worked together,” said Patrick Rau, BHS principal.

Area's drug problem an eye-opener

SCHS golfers finish fifth in Bay
With a sixth-place finish Tuesday in the Bay Conference tournament at Wander Spring Golf Course in Greenleaf, the Shawano Community High School girls golf team finished fifth in the conference standings. Denmark, which battled Marinette for the top spot all season, edged the Marines by seven points to win the Bay crown. Shawano shot a 449 on Tuesday.
