Gary Gallagher, 74, Oconto Falls, died Sunday morning, Nov. 24, 2013, at a Green Bay hospital with his family present. He was born July 23, 1939, in Oconto Falls to Clifford and Orpha (Poppe) Gallagher. Gary grew up in Oconto Falls, where he attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1957. Thursday night’s northbound traffic heading out of Green Bay toward the path around the Falls may not have been bumper-to-bumper, but it was a very steady stream of vehicles loaded down with coolers and other supplies. Hunters were greeted with bitter cold and high winds Saturday for opening day of Wisconsin’s gun-deer season. J.J. Slewinski, of Shawano, braved the weather near Hintz in Oconto County and got his buck Saturday morning. “If you were out in a field, it was pretty cold,” Slewinski said. “If you were in the woods, it was OK.” The cold weather may have had the deer hunkered down, lowering the number of deer taken opening weekend.
