Clara Jean Fowler-Otto, 79, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. Born on Aug. 26, 1934, in South Branch, she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Louise (Pecore) Fowler. Clara began her employment at the Elgin State Hospital in Illinois. She later moved back home and worked as a CHR for the Menominee Restoration Committee.

Bernice A. Beltz, 95, of Clintonville, formerly of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Pine Manor Health Care Center in Embarrass. Bernice was born Oct. 7, 1918, in the Township of Pella, Shawano County. She was the daughter of the late John and Elsie (Koepsel) Engelhardt.

Burglary Two teenagers are facing charges of burglarizing two taverns in the town of Pella last week. Miguel K. Rosas, 17, of rural Shawano, and Donald W. Simmons, 18, of Clintonville, are accused of breaking into Hurricane Dawn’s on Nov. 19 and Hopper’s Bar on Nov. 23.

After going through a battle for his life over the last seven months, Tom Bartels is finally home. He spent those months in hospitals in Neenah, Shawano and Milwaukee after being diagnosed with pancreatitis. One of his doctors told Bartels he was proud that he didn’t stop fighting for his life. “A couple of times I felt I wish I could die,” said Bartels, who spent nearly all of that time flat on his back. “It was a horrible roller coaster ride,”

The Gresham Community High School boys basketball team is trying to fill some big shoes. Those shoes belong to Brady Hoffman, one of three graduated seniors from last year’s team, along with Tom Williams and Jaz Mohawk. Hoffman led the team in scoring (264 points, 14.7 points per game) and rebounding (203, 11.3 per game). Those marks were fifth and second in the Central Wisconsin Conference-10, respectively.
