Sheriff can't explain missing money

Shawano County Sheriff Randy Wright said Thursday that an investigation into $1,000 in jail bond money that went missing in March has not turned up any evidence of wrongdoing. “There’s nothing to substantiate that one way or the other,” he said. School Board OKs $1.5M line of credit
The Shawano School Board gave its approval earlier this week for district officials to work with Premier Community Bank to establish a $1.5 million revolving line of credit. The line of credit is in place, according to business manager Gail Moesch, to cover the district’s expenses for when bills are due but property taxes and state aid have not been received.

Packers in must-win mode

SCHS hires new athletic director
When Shawano Community High School went looking for an athletic director, it didn’t have to look too far. Charmaine Schreiber, who lives in Shawano, has taught and coached the last few years at Iola-Scandinavia. Before that she spent 12 years as an associate athletic director at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Fla. She’s also had experience coaching volleyball, basketball and softball. “Charmaine had an extensive background.

The Hunt
The hunting season is like another holiday at our house. As the season approaches, the anticipation is almost tangible. Preparation and planning are done way in advance. The deer stands are checked out and hunting licenses are purchased. I make and freeze chocolate chip cookies and gingersnaps, a tradition.

Menominee veterans elect officers
The Veterans of the Menominee Nation held their annual election of officers at their November meeting. Officers elected for one-year terms were Gilbert “Andy” Boivin, commander; Elmer Wilber Sr., vice commander; Jamie Awonahopay, treasurer; Susan Cook, secretary; and Lyle Kreier, sergeant at arms. Veterans of the Menominee Nation meet at 6 p.m.

Fowl territory
Despite the creative name, Platypus Flats Ranch does not have a single platypus, which is native to eastern Australia. However, Amy and Tony Jagla, owners of the 10 1/2-acre farm in Pella, have plenty of other animals with bills — not to mention beaks and udders. The farm has been in operation for eight years and became a full-fledged business in 2011.
