Dr. Paul Mantz, family and staff at Wolf River Dental were joined by the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, contractors and political officials at the grand opening celebration of the new dental clinic Oct. 24.

Located at 1040 Engel Drive, Wolf River Dental moved into its recently completed new office space, having previously been at 152 Woodlawn Drive.

A plan to convert cropland into a solar farm and potentially generate millions of dollars in revenue for Shawano County has come to an end.

Through an agreement approved by the county board in February 2021, the proposed solar farm was expected to take up anywhere from 300-500 acres of the 630-acre county farm property along state Highway 22 in the Town of Belle Plaine.

Shawano County supervisors approved their 2026 budget Oct. 22.

The $76.55 million budget includes a $21.3 million gross county tax levy, with the remainder of revenues coming from state and federal funds, plus service fees.

The tax levy consists of $16.75 million for general county operations; $4.42 million for debt service; $130,189 for bridge aid; and $202.15 for property taxes charged back.

The victim of a fatal Oct. 17 crash in the Town of Oconto Falls has been identified as an 18-year-old Suring man who graduated from Oconto Falls High School last May.

• Anthony R. Warrington, 37, a Shawano man serving a term at Fox Lake Correctional Institution, pleaded no contest Oct. 20 to manufacturing and delivering amphetamine and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. Judge Katherine Sloma sentenced him to 54 months in state prison, followed by five years of extended supervision with conditions.

• Alfred Duane Gristeau, 26, Gillett, pleaded no contest Aug. 19 to six counts of burglary to a building or dwelling, two counts of misdemeanor theft, two misdemeanor counts of crimnal damage to property, and misdemeanor charges of resisting or obstructing an officer and bail jumping. Judge Michael Judge sentenced him Oct. 20 to five years and six months in prison, followed by six years of extended supervision with conditions.
