2025 in Review: Nordin reaches pinnacle of high school career

Shawano Community High School girls basketball star Leah Nordin started 2025 out on a winning note, as the Hawks beat Green Bay East 61-22.

The 6-2 junior sank a short jumper from the left side of the lane with 9:16 left in the first half at Green Bay East to become Shawano’s all-time leading basketball scorer, boys or girls.

Panthers hang on for boys basketball win

Oconto Falls 64, Oconto 63

The Blue Devils trailed by double digits and steadily closed the gap as the game wound down, but the Panthers held on for a slim 64-63 win.

Panther girls beat Blue Devils

Oconto Falls had little trouble dispatching Oconto, beating the Blue Devils 54-21 on Dec. 27.

The Panthers held a strong 24-10 lead at halftime and only expanded its margin of victory with a 30-11 second half.

Oconto Falls improved to 4-6 overall.

Hawks fall to Red Robins at Antigo tourney

Shawano/Bonduel fell 3-1 to their hosts at the Antigo holiday tournament.

The Hawks’ only goal came at 8:38 in the first period when Kielian Armbruster scored with help from Cameron Schroeder and Blake Swedberg.

Gillett girls lose to Peshtigo

Peshtigo 41, Gillett 35

Gillett fell to 5-2 overall with a 41-35 nonconference loss to Peshtigo on Dec. 23.

Wins adding up for Wittenberg-Birnamwood boys

Back-to-back games can take a toll on a high school basketball team.

Take the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers, for example. The Chargers hosted Shawano on Dec. 22, headed to Clintonville the following day and ended up with a pair of hard-fought nonconference wins.

One day after handing Shawano a 57-56 loss, the Chargers improved to 7-0 with a 59-51 nonconference win over the Truckers.

Bay Area boys beat De Pere on ice rink

Bay Area Storm won its first Fox River Classic Conference game of the season, a 3-1 decision over De Pere on Dec. 23.

Henry Laurent scored at 10:16 in the first period with assists from Tyler Wempe and Aiden Buchan.
