After opening the season with losses to Menominee Nation and Kewaunee, the Oconto Falls girls basketball team hoped to turn the tide in its North Eastern Conference opener.

The Waupaca Comets had other plans, however.

The Comets scored 21 of the game’s first 23 points and cruised to a 59-23 win over the Panthers on Dec. 2 at Waupaca High School.

Bonduel 79, St. Mary Catholic 56

Ryan Westrich and Quinn Wesenberg each scored 24 points as Bonduel beat up on St. Mary Catholic 79-56 at home Dec. 2.

Griffin Uelmen contributed 12 points, while Jack Weier added another 10.

Wesenberg and Weier each had a pair of 3-pointers.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 74, Manawa 14

It was no contest for Wittenberg-Birnamwood when the Chargers crushed Manawa 73-14 on Dec. 2.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood had a commanding 51-10 lead at halftime and continued dominating with a 22-4 second half.

“We came out with great pressure tonight, which led to a nice lead going into halftime,” coach Nick Mechelke said.

The Shawano/Seymour boys swim team won only one of 11 events and lost to Rhinelander 119-51 in Shawano on Dec. 2.

It was the Great Northern Conference opener.

Tuesday, Dec. 2

Shawano/Bonduel 5, Stevens Point Pacelli 2

Shawano/Bonduel traveled to the Ice Hawks Arena to take on Stevens Point Pacelli and returned home Dec. 2 with a 5-2 win.

Shawano Community High School sophomore Quinten Harkey had a hat trick for the Hawks, who scored all five of their goals in the first two periods. Pacelli’s two scores came in the third period.

James Brady scored 22 points to led Tigerton to a 62-50 win over Green Bay NEW Lutheran at home Dec. 1. Brady also led the Tigers with 10 rebounds.

Cameron Carlson added 11 points, including 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

Sam Anheuser notched eight assists for the home team, and Carlson had six steals.
