“Aunty” Lorraine J. Holtger, 89, Klondike, died peacefully Thursday evening, Aug. 15, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Klondike to Roland and Emily (Burish) Holtger and was a very special “Aunty” to many. Lorraine attended Coleman public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1942. As a young girl, she worked as a clerk at Abby Ste.

Jack J. Marsh, 87, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. He was born on July 18, 1926, son of the late John and Nellie (Johnvin) Marsh. Jack was united in marriage to June Hamlin in Mountain. He was a member of Angelica United Methodist Church, Pulaski. He was a VFW member in Mountain. Jack was in the World War II Army Air Corps, honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1947.

Lillian “Lil” Belongia, 91, Lena, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013. She was born on Oct. 27, 1921, to Anna and Elmer Kosnar. Lil graduated from Lena High School in 1939. She married Ernest “Eli” Belongia on Oct. 8, 1942, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2006. Lil worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Lena, the Cashway Grocery Store and the bloodmobile.

The Shawano Community High School girls golf team opened its season Friday at the 16-team Seymour Invitational at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour. The Hawks finished 13th, with a team score of 465, led by Courtney Baumann’s round of 104. Megan Beck had the second-best day for Shawano, shooting 108.

With 14 seniors, including three with all-Bay Conference honors, the Shawano Community High School boys soccer team is poised to have a big season. The Hawks, who went 8-9 and finished fourth in the Bay Conference (5-5) last year, are loaded with experience. “I have a lot of talented people,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said. “The situation this year is that I don’t have enough room for all the players that could be varsity level.

I have driven over the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge in Green Bay countless times. I never really enjoyed that journey, because I am afraid of heights, and let’s face it, that bridge is high, so I always looked straight ahead.
