Gillett Public Library The new Community Center facility, purchased by the Gillett Pubic Library in May, is getting closer to completion. The library purchased the BMO Harris bank building next door through donations (no taxpayer money was used), and it is being converted into meeting room space for the community. There will be one large gathering place and three smaller meeting rooms once the project is done.

Bellin Health held a dedication and ribbon cutting for its new mobile mammography vehicle Friday at the health system’s Green Bay campus. The mobile mammography unit, a large pink vehicle that resembles an RV, houses high-tech digital mammography equipment, along with bone densitometry equipment used to detect osteoporosis.

Proceedings from Feb. 26 A pretrial conference was held for Lashawn D. Campbell, 22, Oconto. He pleaded not guilty to felony charges of second-degree reckless endangering safety-domestic abuse and two misdemeanor charges, which allegedly occurred Jan. 27 in Oconto. A $5,000 cash bond continues. A bond hearing is scheduled March 9. A waiver preliminary hearing, status conference and arraignment were held for James A. Kellogg, 49, Gillett.

A Lena well, closed for two years when high levels of radium were detected, is back in use behind the Village Hall. On Feb. 12, the village began pumping water through its newly constructed treatment facility, which removes radium from Well No. 1 water. Radium is a naturally occurring metal that can be found in ground water.

The Gillett City Council on Thursday released Tim Christensen from his role as public works director, as the financially strapped city looks for ways to save money. The council met for about 15 minutes in closed session before voting 5-1 to let Christensen go, effective the following day.

The board overseeing charter schools in the Gillett School District will operate with five, rather than nine, members, following the adoption of a memorandum of understanding Feb. 19. Gillett offers CrE8, an art-infused charter school at the elementary level, and GOAL Academy (Gillett’s Occupational and Leadership Academy), which offers secondary school students career pathways selections.

The April 7 election will determine who will serve as treasurer for the town of Oconto Falls. The two candidates are incumbent Mary Lemmen and challenger Sue Konitzer.
