The Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club held its annual Chicken, Tips and Toys gun banquet March 23 at Romy’s Holiday Inn at Kelly Lake. Funds generated from the banquet are used to stock walleye and perch fingerlings in Kelly Lake and improve fish spawning habitat in the lake. The club also uses the funds for its annual scholarship program and local outreach programs. More than 100 people attended this year’s event.

Members of the Oconto Falls Area Ambulance Service sold custom-designed T-shirts and candy bars at Witt’s Piggly Wiggly in Oconto Falls this month to raise funds to purchase an updated Jaws of Life unit. Fundraising will continue until the OFAAS raises $27,000 for the new equipment. The Jaws of Life are used primarily in motor vehicle crashes for the safe and expedient extrication of trapped victims.

The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts will present the music of Dorf Kapelle at a dinner show, as their sixth performance in this year’s Fine Arts Series. The performance will be held on Friday, April 24, at Romy’s Holiday Inn, Kelly Lake.

New Yorker magazine publishes new poems in each issue. I like them, but I often wonder how much the poems are appreciated by the majority of the magazine’s readers. Poems are usually somewhat nonliteral and sort of artsy, aren’t they?

Monday morning’s rainy start to the work week on the path around the Falls had to be a hint of changes on the way. The rain, combined with warmer temperatures this week, will result in Mother Nature brushing a few strokes of green from her color pallet. Every player and coach involved in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game in July has been asked to collect at least $750 for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. “It’s a very special feeling to be able to play for someone to help them out and knowing that I’m doing something good for them,” said Gillett High School running back Monte Noffke, who was recently selected to the team and has set a personal goal of raising $3,000.

Monte Noffke was unstoppable on the football field this past fall. The Gillett running back will get one more shot to shine on the high school stage July 18 in the annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game.
