Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum open for summer season

The Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum in Lakewood is open for public tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday through Labor Day weekend. A special Reader’s Theatre Performance with a logging theme will be presented at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 by the Wabeno Area Players. Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum is located off Highway F, 1.5 miles east of Lakewood. Turn right into the McCauslin Golf Course and Country Club, then follow the signs.
Winning the RibFest Challenge
Glen Martin, a member of the Sons of American Legion, won the fifth annual American Legion Post 44 — Wabeno RibFest Challenge, held June 7. Martin outcooked five other contestants. He and his wife, Amanda, participate in many Legion activities.
Field day to feature cover crops, rotations in seed potato production system
Farms are increasingly utilizing cover crops as a method of managing soil erosion and improving overall soil health. Cover crops are known to have benefits, but they can also have drawbacks in some situations. The Antigo Silt Loam & Water Producer-led Watershed Protection Group is sponsoring a Community Field Day on June 27 starting at 10:30 a.m.
Witt-Birn coach inducted into hall of fame
Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School cross country coach Cathy Esker was inducted into the U.S. College Track & Field/Cross Country Hall of Fame on June 8. Esker, then known as Cathy Branta, competed at UW-Madison in the 1980s. She is a five-time national champion and 11-time All-American.
