Eagles dominate Elcho/White Lake The Menominee Indian High School football team brought its losing streak to a decisive end Friday night in Keshena, beating Elcho/White Lake 40-6 in a Northern Lakes Conference match-up. The Eagles defense led the way, holding Elcho/White Lake (0-3, 0-1 Northern Lakes) to -31 yards and getting seven sacks, three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

I was thinking that September has just arrived; however, since this column will be printed on Sept. 14, I have to admit that in fact, September is half way gone. So far much of it has been spent relaxing and starting new projects at home. A couple of days was spent Up North, at Camp Luther, with more than 100 other women for a retreat.

Buttoning up our third crop hay awhile ago, we topped the silo off by chopping one smaller field of corn because our third crop hay yield was less than desirable. Husband decided we will wait a few days before beginning to fill our silage bags.

For several months Liz Nowak and Carla Lynch have been working to control the animal population in Shawano County through Shawano Cares about Critters. The women have their own Facebook page, shawanocaresaboutcirtters, where they give information and advice on taking care of pets. “Carla and I met on Facebook,” Nowak said.

Betty Pearson volunteers to tutor several students for the Shawano County Literacy Council. She was born in Wauwatosa, graduating from Wauwatosa East High School. She earned a degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in speech communication and a master’s degree in urban education. Pearson taught in a residential treatment center, Milwaukee Area Technical College and UW-Washington County.
