Jim Heinz ended his 15-year stint on the Shawano School Board with an email sent to board president Julie Van Dyck on Sunday. Van Dyck announced Heinz’s resignation at Monday’s board meeting. Hawks dominate Denmark The Shawano Community High School boys soccer team blasted Denmark 9-0 in a Bay Conference match Tuesday in Denmark. Chance VanDyck and Garret Schlise each had three goals for Shawano (7-1-1, 4-0-0 Bay). Schlise also had an assist. Zach Dickmann had a goal and four assists. Sawyer Buck and Braden Mueller had a goal each.

The Bonduel High School boys cross-country team took third and the girls finished fourth Tuesday at the Bonduel Invitational. Freedom won both the boys and girls titles. The Bonduel boys were led by Isaac Palmer, who finished seventh with a time of 17 minutes, 50 seconds. Freedom’s Sam Hinz won the boys meet in 16:19.

The Shawano Community High School girls swim team opened the dual meet season Tuesday with a 93-77 win over New London in Shawano. Ali Hanson, Clare Martell and Malory Soper each took two firsts.

Bonduel High School’s Mallory Mews took second and Shawano Community High School’s Teagan Monfils was fifth at the Shawano Hawk Invitational cross-country meet Saturday at SCHS. Twenty-six teams and 720 runners participated in the meet, won by the Green Bay East girls and Green Bay Preble boys. Mews, with a time of 15 minutes, 37 seconds, finished second only to Winneconne’s Abi Salm (15:23). “I felt really good,” Mews said.

The Shawano Community High School volleyball team was 5-0 before falling to Oconto Falls in the championship game of the Shawano volleyball tournament Saturday at SCHS. Despite the loss to Oconto Falls (25-16, 25-12), Shawano coach Jean Wolff was pleased with her team’s performance. “It was a very successful day for our Shawano volleyball team,” Wolff said.

Alice Helen Hovey, 89, of Green Bay, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Feb. 19, 1924, in Withee, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Clara (Erickson) Christensen. Alice grew up in the town of Lessor and attended Wellhaven School. On Aug. 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harvey Ebert. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1962. After the death of her husband, Alice moved to Green Bay. On Sept.

Maxine M. Bente, 69, of the town of Wescott, Shawano, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, Sept. 13, 2013, at the Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
