Shawano drug unit expects busy year

Shawano police expect to become more aggressive in the coming year on the local front in the war on drugs as they put to use additional money set aside by the Common Council. Rural Health Initiative continues to fill valuable role
Wisconsin dairy farmer Kevin Ainsworth rushed to the emergency room in 1992, when he sliced off the tip of his finger. Other than a quick trip in 2010 when a test during a blood donation raised a false alarm about hepatitis C, that was his last visit to a doctor. His father jokingly hassles him about needing a prostate exam now that he’s past 50, but Ainsworth shrugs that off.

Area nursing home workers sentenced for nude photos
Two former Wisconsin nursing home workers have been sentenced after being accused of using cellphones to record and share images of unclothed elderly patients. Twenty-three-year-old Michelle Bulger of Cecil and 20-year-old Ashley Schaumberg of Pulaski were sentenced in Brown County Court this month to reduced charges. Shawano Police Department Dec. 25 Police logged 11 incidents, including the following: Disabled Vehicle — Police responded to a disabled vehicle complaint at Birch Hill Lane and Prospect Street. Weapon Offense — A 53-year-old Shawano man sought treatment at the Shawano Medical Center emergency room after accidentally discharging a pistol, grazing his hip and leg area, in the 1200 block of South Lafayette Street.

School Notes
Hillcrest Primary School The first-graders have been very busy this month. In art class, they made beautiful gingerbread houses for the holidays. The students did a wonderful job singing during their winter concert. The Humane Society came and talked about caring for pets. The students were very generous with their donations to the Humane Society.

Eugene O. Wolf
Eugene O. Wolf, 77, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Born on Oct. 12, 1936, in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late Henry and Emma (Sobieski) Wolf. After graduating from high school, Eugene enlisted with the United States Reserves. On Feb. 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Norma Elaine Meyer. Eugene worked for many years at the Neenah Foundry.

Two County Board races confirmed
Two races for the Shawano County Board in the spring election appear to be set, but six others were also looking likely as of Tuesday. All 27 county supervisors will be up for re-election April 1. Potential candidates have until Jan.

2 missing persons cases still active
Months after they were filed, two missing person cases remain open for city and county law enforcement, even though their trails have gotten colder and potential leads have gotten fewer. Heather Szekeres, 32, of Shawano was last confirmed to have been at the former Final Lap Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Shawano at 11 p.m.
