Richard G. Clayton Jr., 55, Suring, passed away at home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013. Richard was born to Richard G. and Guerda A. (Husum) Clayton on Aug. 18, 1958. Richard is survived by his daughter, Joy (John) Darrow, of Green Bay; his son, Richard G.
Marilyn Baldwin
Marilyn “Hazel” Baldwin, 73, of Cecil, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the Jack and Engrid Meng Unity Hospice Residence, with her loving family at her side, after a valiant fight with leukemia. She was born Jan. 20, 1940, in California, Pa., to the late Dallas and Gertrude Martin. Hazel was raised in Grover and graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1958. She married Macklyn Baldwin Jan.
Suring comes alive on Labor Day weekend
An end-of-summer party is planned in Suring when the village holds its 83rd annual Labor Day celebration from Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Event organizer Cindy Zahn said the celebration brings hundreds of people into the village. “It’s a lot of fun. It usually is an annual homecoming for people who used to live here,” she said. Many of the traditional events will return this year, including the demolition derby, fireworks show and Labor Day parade.
Wilber, Elfe honored as Suring parade marshals
Margaret Elfe and Luretta Wilber, of the town of How, have been awarded the Suring Area Senior Citizen Award and will serve as grand marshals of the Suring Labor Day Parade. The women will receive their award at 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The parade begins at 10 a.m Monday, Sept.

Gillett grad designs wheel for lunar vehicle
Joseph Patzer presented his design for a lunar wheel to NASA in a competition in July. “One of my professors told me about the competition and suggested I do it,” said Patzer, a 2009 Gillett High School graduate and senior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Lunar Wheel Design Challenge involved designing and building a lunar wheel prototype and demonstrating its capabilities for NASA.
