Robert Anthony Alesch, 86, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. He was born June 7, 1927, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Anthony and Bertha (Berry) Alesch. Bob grew up in Shawano and graduated from Shawano High School in 1945. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country in a Naval Aviation Unit until December 1946.

Jeannine Alaine Voeks, 63, of Green Bay, went to be in the arms of her loving Savior on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Born on Oct. 15, 1950, in Green Bay, she was the daughter of Carl Busch and the late Dorraine (Hanstedt) Busch. Jeannine grew up in the Bonduel area and graduated from Bonduel High School in 1968. After high school, Jeannine lived in Appleton, where she worked at AAL for 10 years.

Agnes M. “Angie” Murphy, 89, Green Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014. She was born on July 26, 1924, in Green Bay to the late Thomas and Francis (Wygralak) Taylor. Angie married the love of her life, Maurice “Morris” Murphy, in October 1945.

Dean F. Kroenke, 81, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, after a long battle with heart failure.

Karelyn Malliet will be making a return trip to the state spelling bee after showing the area that spelling is her “jurisdiction.” It was that word that gave Malliet, a seventh-grade student at Shawano Community Middle School, her second regional title in a row.

Six Menominee Indian High School wrestlers advanced to the WIAA sectionals Saturday as the Eagles won the Division 3 regional championship in Shiocton. Six Bonduel wrestlers also qualified for the sectional tourney. Wittenberg-Birnamwood fared the best of all the area schools, claiming the Division 2 regional title at Nekoosa/Port Edwards and advancing 10 wrestlers, including five champions. The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team has earned a No. 1 seed in the WIAA Division 2 Regional tournament. Shawano boys defeat New London The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team beat New London 59-48 in a Bay Conference game Tuesday in New London. Shawano lost forward Jack Lacy to injury early in the game and withstood a New London rally that featured seven 3-pointers. Zeke Gueths led Shawano (13-8, 11-4 Bay) with 18 points. Dillon Frechette added 10 points, and Garrett Schlise had 12 rebounds.
