Gerald E. Treptow, 71, Bowler, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home. He was born on Nov. 24, 1942, in Bowler, the son of Lucille (Fuhrman) Treptow, Bowler, and the late Edward Treptow. Gerald was a U.S. Army veteran. On June 17, 1967, he was united in marriage to Patricia Goyer in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2013. Gerald worked for the Shawano County Highway Department for more than 20 years.

Allan E. Moede, 80, Green Bay, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was born on Oct. 8, 1933, in Shawano, the son of Edwin and Fried (Prey) Moede. Al was a graduate of Shawano High School with the Class of 1951. Al served his country in the United States Army stationed in Japan and was part of the Army band from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. McKenzie Thoma and Ashlynn Brisk topped the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 stat books this season and this week were named the league’s Players of the Year. Brisk, a 5-6 junior guard at Bowler High School, led the conference in assists (71, 3.9 average), rebounds (203, 11.3) and steals (161, 8.9).

Bonduel Elementary School This first full week of March has been filled with literacy activities for the kindergarten students at Bonduel Elementary School. The kindergarten children heard a large variety of stories written by one of their favorite authors, Dr. Seuss. We had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday throughout the week. To conclude the week, the students wore their pajamas to school on Friday.

The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship Program has announced several area recipients of the 2014 Herb Kohl Foundation awards for students and teachers. The $1,000 awards statewide are being made to 100 teachers, their schools and 187 graduating high school students. Shawano Police Department March 17 Police logged 20 incidents, including the following: Assault — A sexual assault complaint was under investigation. Juvenile — Police logged three truancy complaints from Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St. Disturbance — Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of East Center Street. A 45-year-old Bowler man left the scene before police arrived.

Shawano School District could be going down the same path as some neighboring schools when it comes to technology. The School Board signed off Monday on a three-year district technology plan that will be sent to the Department of Public Instruction.

A bill that would allow farmers to feel more comfortable about hosting the public for educational and tourism activities is still making its way through the state Legislature, but it has broad support in Shawano County. Known as the agritourism liability bill, the measure provides immunity to providers for injuries and deaths on their property.
