Bananas running onto a high school football field are not something commonly seen, but what’s being seen by many in Oconto Falls as a harmless prank has resulted in four students being suspended after the Oct. 2 incident during the Panthers home football game.

Rep. Calvin Callahan, R-Tomahawk, is now a full party in the lawsuit seeking to let Wisconsin voters cast a second ballot on Election Day after already having mailed their absentee ballot back, and the court has denied the plaintiffs’ request for temporary injunctive relief seeking to change election rules before November.

The first of two rounds of bids for the a $121 million courthouse and jail in Shawano County was well received by construction companies, and local officials are happy with the results.

Learning came to life in an exciting way for third grade students at Sacred Heart Catholic School as they recently participated in a hands-on outdoor science activity called “Run for Your Life.”

Members of the public safety committee agreed Oct. 7 to accept five grants totaling more than $50,000 for the sheriff’s department, dispatch and emergency management.

The two largest grants are from the Wisconsin Department of Justice and are Tribal Law Enforcement Assistance Grants for the Stockbridge-Munsee Community and the Ho-Chunk Nation.

Jayson Cross was originally working toward being an accountant, but that career path didn’t add up for the Chicago-based stand-up comedian.

Cross has a love for southern Wisconsin venues, but he will be bringing laughter and fun up north when he performs two shows Oct. 24 at Ignacio’s Puebla Street Food, 230 E. Green Bay St., Shawano. The visit is part of his “Moral Dilemma” tour.

Near dusk one night a few years ago during fall harvest, I was following a combine into town on a county road. I had my headlights on as I always do — headlights on before dusk and dawn, in fog or rain or snow. It was hard to see at that time of night. I’m finding as I age, I don’t like to drive at night.
