Shawano Community High School on Sept. 26 honored five new members when they were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and Coaches’ Hall of Fame.

The honorees were Allen Werbelow, Mackenzie (Buss) Wilson, Mark Tomashek, Robert (Bob) Jansen and Jim Allbaugh.

Wins haven’t exactly been adding up this season for the Shawano football team.

Heading into their Bay Conference game with Waupaca on Oct. 2 on the Comets’ home field, the Hawks were in the midst of a four-game losing streak that began after the team’s only win over Lakeland.

The losing streak is over, as the Hawks returned home with a 42-26 win following a 275-yard, three-touchdown effort from Marcus Brezgel.

Suring High School’s 8-player football team has dropped its last two games after starting the season 5-0.

On the other hand, the Eagles can add a conference championship to its list of accomplishments this season.

From fairgrounds to classrooms, community parks to college labs, 4-H youth in Shawano County are proving they’re not just ready for the future, they’re beyond ready.

During National 4-H Week, celebrated Oct. 5-11, local clubs are showcasing how 4-H equips young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience to lead in a world full of opportunity and change.

Lynda Drews will be visiting Oconto through an event put on by Farnsworth Public Library.

Her visit will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Oconto City Hall, 1210 Main St., Oconto.

Drews will share about the research behind her historical true crime books, “Disposable Wives” and “The Maid and the Socialite.”
