Shawano County bat tests positive for rabies

The Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department reports that a bat in Shawano County has tested positive for the rabies virus, which is transmitted from infected mammals to humans (typically via a bite) and is nearly always fatal once symptoms appear.

When Gov. Tony Evers appointed District Attorney Hannah Schuchart to fill the unexpired term of Judge Michael T. Judge, he originally had an April 10 deadline to apply to fill her unexpired term.

Now, the governor is accepting applications on a rolling basis until the vacancy is filled.

Adkins honored as Bonduel parade marshal

Delinquent taxpayers to be hit with new penalty

Shawano County delinquent taxpayers will soon be assessed a new penalty on their back taxes.

Members of the executive committee gave the green light to Emily Kazik, county treasurer, to help prepare an ordinance that will assess a 0.5% monthly penalty on all back taxes going back the last decade. It is anticipated the penalty will go into effect Jan. 1, 2027.
