Tourism numbers continue to climb

Shawano, Menominee and Oconto counties were part of the 2024 record-breaking year for Wisconsin tourism, noted Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Anne Sayers.

According to 2024 economic impact data, the Wisconsin tourism industry generated $25.8 billion in total economic impact, surpassing the previous record year of $25 billion set in 2023.

• Dylan L. Corn, 22, Keshena, pleaded no contest Oct. 10 to possession of narcotic drugs, felony bail jumping, four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of operating while revoked. Judge William Kussel Jr. levied fines and sentenced him to 180 days in county jail.

• Robert T. Albert II, 53, Stephenson, Michigan, pleaded no contest Oct. 7 to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Three felony counts were dismissed in a plea agreement. Judge Michael Judge levied fines and sentenced him to 12 days time served in county jail.

Deputies responded to 26 incidents, including a disturbance at the county jail, 405 N. Main St., Shawano; suspicious activity on Strauss Road in the Town of Wescott; seven 911 calls; two reckless driving incidents; three crashes, two involving deer.

Town hall meeting packed on solar farm

The Morgan Town Hall had standing room only Oct. 7 for a special meeting about the Fox Solar Project.

Fox Solar Project is the proposal of Florida-based developer NextEra Energy. The project would consist of a 100-megawatt solar farm and 50-megawatt battery facility on 648.9 acres of land near CCC Road and County Road C.
