The Shawano Hawks earned a decisive 69-43 victory over the Antigo Red Robins, turning in a strong all-around performance on both ends of the court. The Hawks set the tone early and maintained control throughout the game, using balanced scoring and solid defense to secure the win.

Ice Bears advance to sectional finals

The Ice Bears cruised into the WIAA sectional finals with a 9-1 semifinal win over the Fox Cities Stars.

Bay Area will host Lakeshore Lightning at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 27 for the sectional final and the right to advance to the state tournament.

Season ends for Bay Area boys hockey team

The Voyageurs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and held on for the win to end the Bay Area boys hockey team season 4-1 in the WIAA sectional semifinals.

The Storm’s only goal came with the team trailing 4-0 in the second period. Pulaski’s Brody Hronek scored at 13:18 with an assist from high school teammate Braden Becks.

3 wins, 3 losses for area girls teams as regionals get underway

Oconto Falls 79, Sturgeon Bay 27

Oconto Falls’ girls basketball team advanced to the WIAA regional semifinals with a 79-27 win over Sturgeon Bay.

The sixth-seeded Panthers, 11-14 overall, will play Feb. 27 at No. 2 seed Little Chute, which had a bye in the first round.

Thundercatz fall to Thunderbirds in first round of state tournament

Thirty wins over the past two seasons have helped put the Marion/Tigerton girls basketball team on the map.

Although the Thundercatz’ season ended Feb. 24 with a 62-38 loss to Iola-Scandinavia in the opening round of the WIAA state tournament, coach Ben Livingood is convinced his team is headed in the right direction.

Basketball a family affair for Nordins

Leah Nordin isn’t the only member of her family with a basketball background.

The Shawano Community High School senior has spent the last four years raising eyebrows as one of the state’s top players and will head to the University of Wisconsin later this year to suit up for the Badgers’ women’s team.
