Just when it looked like Shawano County and the Shawano Hockey League had settled differences over damage to the Crawford Center, a statement denying guilt may have knocked the puck out of the net. The hockey league board of directors agreed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in damage to doors and walls at the Crawford Center.

The regular season is winding down for all 23 teams in the Badger Amateur Baseball Association. The top four teams in all four divisions — East, West, North and South-Central — will begin postseason play Aug. 10 in the divisional round after regular-season action is scheduled to wrap up Aug.

July 20 Cecil 13, Shawano 1 (7 inn.) After a slow start by both teams, Cecil erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning and went on to pick up a win over the Lobos in seven innings that ended because of the 10-run rule. Reese Stoltenow led off the Mudhens’ half of the third inning with his team’s first hit and Ken Casper followed with a two-run home run over the left-field fence. East/West Division July 13 Clintonville 16, Tilleda 3 (7 inn.) Jaden Doornink went the distance and struck out nine batters to get the win on the mound for the A’s. Zach Schafer, Austin Hoffman and Turner Doornink led Clintonville with three hits each, while Andy Lederer added a three-run home run. Landon Kroening had two hits to lead Tilleda at the plate.

Two Oconto Falls girls were named to the North Eastern Conference all-conference second team for softball, and a teammate earned honorable mention status. Junior Amelia Danielczak was named to the second team as a catcher, and Katelyn Kurek was honored for her outfield play. Honorable mention was earned by Izzy Otto in the infield.
