Suring, Lena/STAA cruise in 8-player openers

A big first half helped both Suring and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy open their 8-player football seasons with home wins.

Suring scored 56 points in the first two quarters and went on to post a 69-12 win over Wausaukee on Aug. 21.

Meanwhile, on Aug. 22, Lena/STAA shut out Niagara 53-0 in Lena.

Little Falls, Clintonville to play for BABA title

A pair of Waupaca County teams will meet to decide this year’s Badger Amateur Baseball Association Grand Championship.

Meanwhile, another Waupaca County team won the Dairyland League’s Grand Championship.

Seymour Thunder Invitational

Pulaski golfers placed ninth and Shawano was 11th out of 14 teams at Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Seymour won on their home course with a 367. Pulaski finished at 420, while the Hawks were 427.

Hawks tennis team wins at Bay Port, loses at Preble

Friday, Aug. 22

Shawano dropped both of its matches at the Green Bay Preble Invite.

Shawano fell 6-1 to Kimberly and then lost 5-2 to their hosts.

Tuesday, Aug. 19

Shawano’s girls tennis team pulled out a trio of wins at the Bay Port Invite.

The Hawks defeated Green Bay Preble 5-2, Menominee (Michigan) 4-3 and Howards Grove 5-2.

Anvelink wins Dirt Kings late model race in Shawano

Nick Anvelink won the Dirt Kings late models feature race Aug. 23 at the Shawano Speedway. He was also the winner in the first heat.

In the feature race, Anvelink was followed by Mitch McGrath, Todd Frank, Justin Ritchie and Troy Springborn.

Lukas Postl and McGrath won the other two heat races.

Jordan Bartz won the second heat in the modifieds category and then wen on to win the feature race as well.

Little Falls rolls into BABA semifinals

Last year’s BABA semifinals featured Little Falls, Eland, Scandinavia and Clintonville.

Those same four teams are still alive in this season’s tournament, and the semifinal games set for Aug. 24 are the same matchups as 2024.

Hortonville, Waupaca win Dairyland semifinal games

Waupaca and Hortonville played for a Dairyland League Grand Championship in 2023 and 2024.

They’ll meet again in this year’s championship game for the third straight season after both teams posted wins in the semifinal round.

Waupaca held Bonduel hitless in a 1-0 win Aug. 17, while Hortonville used a big first inning to hand Pulaski a 13-7 loss.

The championship game is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, in Waupaca.
