A Bonduel man scheduled for arraignment Tuesday on a drunken driving charge in Waupaca County was arrested Monday night for allegedly driving drunk in Shawano County. Kevin D. Moericke, 36, was pulled over by a Shawano County sheriff’s deputy shortly before midnight after he was allegedly spotted doing 71 mph on state Highway 47 in the town of Lessor.

The West Nile virus has been identified in a dead crow found in Keshena on the Menominee Reservation, according to the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department. This is the first bird that tested positive for West Nile virus in Menominee County since surveillance for the mosquito-transmitted virus began May 1, the department said. Ewald Richard Wohler, 83, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Nov. 29, 1929, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Ewald J. and Selma (Schwartz) Wohler. A sawmill operation in Waukechon has met the requirements of its conditional use permit from Shawano County, the Planning, Development and Zoning (PDZ) Committee agreed Wednesday. The committee approved the permit on June 6, 2012, with the condition that the mill’s owner, Leroy Schrock, would take steps to suppress the noise that a sawmill operation would produce.

Robert Chicks was formally removed from his position as president of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community by unanimous vote of the Tribal Council this week. The council action Tuesday came two weeks after a tribal court overturned an April recall election that ousted Chicks by a vote of 224-128. Chase Henning will play in the Fox River Valley American Legion All-Star game Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
