Hearing delayed for Wittenberg hostage suspect

A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for Tuesday in the case of a Gillett man charged in connection with a standoff in Wittenberg last month was delayed while he undergoes a competency evaluation. Travis W. Keiler, 28, was arrested April 22 after a two-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies in Wittenberg.
Final county wage study delayed again
It will be at least one more month before the Carlson Dettman wage study goes to the Shawano County Board of Supervisors. Representatives from the Madison-based consulting firm presented their wage recommendations Monday to the Administrative Committee, which originally planned to present its recommendation to the County Board on May 28. Wisconsin dairy cows produced a record 27.6 billion pounds of milk in 2013. The Rolling Meadows Farm, in rural Marion, contributed 2.2 million pounds to that total—and plans to contribute more for years to come. A grant program implemented by Gov. Scott Walker will help them do that. The Grow Wisconsin Dairy 30 X 20 Initiative seeks to increase the state’s milk output to 30 billion pounds by 2020.
Still no ID of human remains
Investigators were contacting family members in area missing persons cases this week, gathering information they hope could help identify human remains discovered in the town of Richmond over the weekend. Chargers girls win Lions Invitational
The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field team used depth Monday to win the Lions Invitational in Wittenberg. The Chargers girls won just two events but had plenty of athletes place to outpace second-place Wausau Newman Catholic and third-place Peshtigo. “I was a little surprised,” Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Mike Balliett said.

Shawano 14, Bonduel 1 The Shawano Lobos broke out the bats to beat the Bonduel Broncos 14-1 in seven innings Sunday in Shawano. Grant Bystol got things started with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

East Division Shawano 11, Menominee 5 Brandon Estep had two hits and scored three runs, and Bobby Brunker earned the win pitching for Shawano. Marlin Waupoose was 2 for 5 to lead Menominee. Berna picks up where he left off
Beautiful racing weather greeted race-hungry Shawano Speedway fans Saturday. Eighty-three racers were on hand to try mastering the historic half-mile oval on the season’s opening night. Sacred Heart Catholic School Here is a quick reminder regarding the spring dress code for our school. Shorts must be within one inch of the knee and may not be worn unless the temperature outside is higher than 60 degrees. Also any clothing with lace may not be worn unless another piece of clothing is worn underneath to cover the skin. Modesty and neat comfort is our goal.
Garden club plans summer trip to Milwaukee
The Northern Gardeners Garden Club will take part in the Milwaukee Garden Tour on July 31 to Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. This museum is located on Lake Michigan bluffs and has re-created the classic elements of the 16th century Tuscan landscape. Participants will have lunch at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in the glass, two-story atrium that has a terrace view and a formal garden backdrop.
