Gillett seventh-grader Ashley Britton recently was crowned National Junior Teen Miss at the 2014 Dream Girls USA Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri. She is the daughter of Jim and Vicky Britton, of Cecil. “I was happy to find out that I had made it into the Top 20 after competing with such amazing and talented young ladies, but I was absolutely overwhelmed when I heard my name being announced as the National Junior Teen Miss!” Ashley said.

The Lunch Hour Book Discussion Group will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Oconto Falls Community Library to discuss “A Reliable Wife” by Robert Goolrick.

The Lena Police Department will hold National Night Out from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the St. Anne Parish grounds. The event is free and open to the community. National Night Out is a national event held across the U.S. every year to promote crime prevention and drug prevention.

The Zahn family hosted the sixth annual Dairy at Dusk on Zanadu Dairy in Spruce, bringing together dairy farmers and neighbors for a night of socializing and learning July 22. Lorraine Zahn, who runs the farm with her husband, Jeff, and son, Sam, said her family looked forward to hosting the event. “It’s really a privilege to be able to invite friends, neighbors and people in the business we are in to come and see what we do,” she said.

Mary Lynn Gwidt, 55, Oconto Falls, died unexpectedly of natural causes July 24, 2014, at her home. The daughter of Adam and Ione (Moesch) Gwidt was born in Pulaski on July 3, 1959. Mary Lynn had been employed at Carver Yacht in Pulaski and then for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she was involved with the gypsy moth studies. Mary Lynn was a small animal 4-H leader in Oconto County.
