Special week honors dispatchers

Shawano celebrates Arbor Day at SCHS
A honey locust tree was planted Wednesday at Shawano Community High School in observance of Arbor Day. The city’s annual Arbor Day celebration, presented by the city’s Tree Advisory Committee, recognized arboriculture efforts of the city, Shawano Municipal Utilities and two “friends of nature.” Dozens of students joined local officials for the program. “We are honored to be a part of this ceremony today,” Principal Scott Zwirschitz said.

Warden calls it a career after 29 years with DNR
After 29 years with the state Department of Natural Resources, James Horne on April 10 called it a career as a conservation warden. Horne, 53, of Shawano, said a couple of incidents in recent months influenced his decision to move on. “It was just one of those things where it was just time,” he said. “There were a couple of bad accidents that I dealt with over the winter.

Thompson feels no pressure to fill holes via draft

Packers receiver to be honored at Jirschele banquet
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams will be honored May 9 at the 23rd annual Doug Jirschele Memorial Sports Award Banquet. The banquet will be held May 9 at Clintonville Lanes and Banquet Hall, 250 County Road I. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., with dinner catered by Mathew’s Supper Club at 7 p.m. and a program at 8 p.m. Adams will receive the Doug Jirschele Sports Award.

Carole J. Staerkel (Sigl) Elbe
Carole Jean Staerkel, 76, born to eternal life on April 18, 2015. Carole was born in the town of Osborne, Outagamie County, to Ferdinand and Catherine (Ehlinger) Sigl, on Oct. 26, 1938. Upon the death of Carole’s father in January 1939, her mother moved the family to Oconto Falls, where Carole grew up and attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and Oconto Falls High School. On Oct. 29, 1955, Carole married Emory Lloyd Elbe.

Carl L. Beauprey
Carl L. Beauprey, 94, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015, in Shawano. Carl was born on July 10, 1920, in Green Bay, a son of the late Joseph and Adelaine (Eberly) Beauprey. Carl had been employed at several area Shawano businesses, including Weber Plywood and Veneer and later for the Shawano County Agricultural Society, where he parked cars for many years at the Shawano fairgrounds. He was of Catholic faith.
