Sept. 10 Lena 3, Niagara 1 A 25-19 loss to Niagara in the first game didn’t get Lena down, as the Wildcats fought back to win the next three games 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 for a 3-1 win. Bonduel 3, Shiocton 2 Bonduel volleyball earned its first conference win against Shiocton. The game went to five sets. Shiocton jumped out to the early lead, winning the first set 25-22.

Sept. 11 Fox River Classic Conference Mini-Meet #4 The Red Raiders scored a 203 and placed sixth at Thornberry Creek. Bay Port won the mini meet with a 168. Pulaski scores were a 48, 49, 52 and 54. There were also scores of 57 and 65. Sept. 10 Bay Conference Mini-Meet #6 Shawano golfers were two stokes off the lead and placed second at Crystal Springs Golf Course.

The Shawano Common Council cleared the final barrier for the Jimmy John’s sandwich shop to come to Shawano. The council approved a conditional use permit Sept. 11 for the company to have a drive-thru area. Jimmy John’s will be located at 811 E. Green Bay St., with plans to raze the current building and redevelop the street.

A group of retired area men recently donated $300 to the Veterans of Menominee Nation. Many of the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group members are veterans, and the donation was made in appreciation of veterans’ service when the group gathered in August at War Bonnet Bar and Grill in Keshena. Jim Skomski, who leads the informal group, said members hold a 50/50 raffle at each meeting.
